Thomas Schutz

Thomas Alexander Schutz, 72, passed away on August 23, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Schutz; his sister, Mary Schutz; his mother-in-law, Marie Brogren Boals, brother-in-law Kenny Toonen, and sister-in-law, Cindy Brogren.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janice (Jan) Schutz; daughter, Kari Schutz; son, Alexander Schutz (Jennifer), brother, John (Carol) Schutz, and sister, Margaret Toonen. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren; Peter, Sammy, Cordelia, and Ethan, brothers and sisters-in-law, Char and Dave McElhany, Marilyn and Roger Lekvold, Curti Brogren , Glen Brogren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom loved his family dearly, and his grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart.
Tom was born on May 22, 1954, and grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota. He was a 1972 graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville, Minnesota. Tom was the owner of Nelson Shoes at the 7-Hi Shopping Center in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Later he worked in the accounting group of Highland Management Group in Edina, Minnesota until his retirement.
Tom had a deep love for nature and spent many hours camping, hunting, and fishing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in creating, fixing, and rebuilding things. His curiosity, resourcefulness, and willingness to help others were qualities that those who knew him will always remember.
Tom will be remembered by his family and loved ones as a patient and courageous man who was mischievous, loyal, and loving. His kindness, sense of humor, and love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him, especially his children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held for family and friends to share memories on Sunday, October 18 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at The Marsh, 15000 Minnetonka Boulevard, Minnetonka, MN 55345.
