Stanley C. Haynes

January 28, 1938 – October 23, 2026

Stanley C. “Stan” Haynes, 88, of Waite Park, died October 23, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

Stan was born January 28, 1938, in Logan County, Nebraska, to Loyd and Ivy (Paxton) Haynes.
He was raised on a ranch in Purdum, Nebraska, in the Sandhills. He spent his youth with his
brothers working on the family ranch and his uncle Chet Paxton’s ranch, and helping neighbors:
riding horses, checking fences and cattle, and helping with branding and with other ranch work.
He attended and graduated from Halsey High School, where he took an auto mechanics
correspondence course and earned the highest score recorded at that time. On September 21,
1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Nutter.

After working as a ranch hand, Stan opened his own auto repair shop in Purdum. Stan and
Janet moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1963 and then moved to Pasadena, California, in 1968. In
1975, the family moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he became service manager at an auto
dealership. In 1981, he started his own business, S&J Auto. After retiring in 2013, he stayed
active, volunteering at WACOSA, ReStore, and the Whitney Senior Center.

He was a member of the Church of God, an International Association, where he served as an
elder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and travel and was known for his kindness, good
humor, and strong work ethic.

Stan is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet; daughters Sherry, Kimberly, and Beth; brothers
Dallas (Thelma) and Willis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers Orville and Floyd; sister Doris; and sisters-in-law Frances, Cleo, and
Betty.

Private interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Thedford, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to
WACOSA, 320 Sundial Drive, Waite Park, MN 56387, or WACOSA.org.
