Aitkin, Minnesota
Karen Joyce Marschel, a humble and dedicated woman of Aitkin, Minnesota, passed away on September 17, 2026. Born in Saint Cloud, MN, on October 24, 1947, to Arthur and Laura Bremer, Karen's life was characterized by an unwavering reliability and an ambitious spirit that shaped every chapter of her story. Her early years were spent in South Haven before moving to Annandale, Minnesota, where she raised her family, and her roots ran as deep as her love for her family and friends, who always came first in her life.
Karen was a woman of many passions. In her younger years, she loved snowmobiling and dancing the polka with her husband, William Marschel, whom she married on August 10, 1968. She also enjoyed camping almost every weekend with family and friends. Karen was an avid card player and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed canning pickles and tomatoes from her grand garden, and her holiday hosting was legendary. Despite her hate for the cold weather, she embraced it with fun activities, and after retiring from Whirltronics in Buffalo, MN, in 2012, she enjoyed going South for the winter. Karen also had a penchant for the casino, where her engaging personality and enthusiasm were infectious.
Karen is survived by her husband, William Marschel; son Chris (Wendy) Marschel; daughter Kimberly (Robert) Halye; grandchildren Amanda, Tahlia (Tyler), Janelle, Amelia and James; great-grandsons Oliver and Isaiah; siblings Marilyn (Quentin) Janisch, Jerry (Shari) Bremer; nieces and nephews Keith (Joyce) Janisch, Mike (Jodi) Janisch, Curt (Carey) Janisch, Brett Bremer and Grant Bremer; and siblings-in-law, Sue (Steve) Raymond & John Marschel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Laura Bremer; her siblings Lucille (Odd) Hansen; and her nephews Jeffrey and Jason Hansen.
Karen's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of character, and the beauty of humility. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Karen on her memorial page as we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a person who touched so many hearts.
