Jay Busch Jr. “Rick”

Jay D. Busch Jr., “Rick,” was born on September 11, 1952, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Jay and Doris Busch. He lived in Clarissa and graduated from Clarissa High School, class of 1970. He passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 73.

Rick married Marie Kalisch on April 7, 1979. Together they had a daughter, Megan. He was a devoted husband and father, a supportive father-in-law to Andrew, and a proud grandfather to Franklin.

He found great joy in life's simple pleasures: fishing, spending time at his cabin on West Battle Lake, watching sports, coaching local JV basketball, and playing cards. Rick had the gift of gab and enjoyed making people smile and laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Megan, and son-in-law, Andrew; grandson, Franklin; his sister, Gloria Host; mother-in-law, RoseMarie Kalisch; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ted, father-in-law Lee Kalisch, and brother-in-law Norman Host.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Rick by going fishing, giving someone a hard time, or cheering on your favorite Minnesota sports team.

A service of remembrance will be held May 8th at 1 pm at Communities of Faith UM in Clarissa.
