Donald James Huber, a humble servant of faith, was called to his heavenly home
on August 22, 2026 at the age of 75. Born in Hebron, North Dakota on July 11, 1951, to
loving parents John and Helen Huber, he was known to many as Don.
Don spent his early years in Glen Ullin, North Dakota, before moving to Valley
City after the untimely loss of his father. Raised in Valley City, North Dakota, Don
carried his hard-working values throughout his life. His heart for service & helping
others was evident when he joined the United States Air Force a year after graduating
Valley City High School. He was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana,
where his job off base led him to meet his eternal love, Elizabeth Ann Phillips, whom he
married in 1974. In 1988, Don and Ann moved to Valley City to raise their two children,
Eric and Carrie. Don started up his own business, Huber Carpet Service. He took great
pride in being the provider for his family.
Don was a dedicated family man, always willing to lend a hand to his loved ones.
He cherished spending time with his family. Don learned to play golf while serving in
the military, a hobby that led to cherished daddy-daughter dates with his beloved
daughter, Carrie. His love for golf grew when his granddaughter, Addi, also took up the
sport, leading to many special memories with them both. His passion for cars was
shared with his son, Eric, with whom he spent countless hours bonding over car
projects. Don also never missed a chance to spend time with his grandchildren, who
affectionately call him Papa. They were his joy in his later years & he adored every
minute with them.
Don is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Huber; his children, Eric (Jordan) Huber
and Carrie (Brian) Schmitz; his grandchildren, Seth Schmitz, Addison Schmitz, and
Tabitha Huber; and his brother, Duane (Renee) Huber. He is also survived by his
brothers-in-law, James (Dixie) Phillips and Bob (Susan) Phillips and many nieces,
nephews, great nieces, great nephews and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Huber and Helen (Gordon) Huber -Huebner; his infant sister, Viola Huber; his sister Gladys (Ronald) Kuhlmann; his niece, Sandy Spanier; and his in-laws,Shirley (David) Collinsworth, James Phillips, Jackie Phillips, and Buren Phillips.
Don's life was a testament to his service, dedication, and love for his family. His
legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to “Speed the Light” in care of Bridgeview Church to
further the Kingdom of God, something Don & his wife cared greatly about. Don felt that his calling was his ability to still be able to work at the age of 75 so he could financially contribute to furthering the kingdom of God. Don fulfilled his calling with great satisfaction and is now happy in his father’s Kingdom.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 14th, at Bridgeview
Assembly of God in Big Lake, MN. Visitation will be at 10:00am, with the service held at
11:00am and a luncheon to follow. Don will also receive a full military honor burial
service to be held at a later date, in which he will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National
Cemetery.
