BETTY EILEEN HILL 85 · Golden Valley, Minnesota · April 12, 1941 – September 17, 2026
Betty Eileen Hill, age 85, went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2026, at her home
in Golden Valley, Minnesota, surrounded by loved ones.
Betty was born April 12, 1941, in Sheridan Township, in her home near Wheeler,
Wisconsin to the late Harland Guy and Edna (Erickson) Schlough. She was baptized
and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, attended Little Beaver, a one-room country
school, through eighth grade, and graduated from Prairie Farm High School in Prairie
Farm, Wisconsin, in 1959.
After graduation, Betty moved to the Twin Cities and served faithfully for 40+
years as Manager of New Business with Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis—today
known as Thrivent—touching lives through her work and service.
Throughout her life, Betty was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, quick sense of
humor, and deep love for family and friends, she was the “favorite Aunt!” She treasured
time together—especially coffee with friends and the joy of visiting with anyone who
stopped by. Betty had a strong love for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and she never
lost her wit, especially when she was sharing friendly banter with her Wisconsin family.
Betty built a legacy that continues through the people she touched. She was deeply
involved with the Briarwood Community, Golden Valley, for over 50 years. Her
faithfulness was a steady gift to those around her, and the love of God was made
evident when she became Carlyn’s mother, caring for her with strength and compassion
at a time when she was needed most.
Betty loved the Lutheran church and held firmly to the hope we hold in Christ--that even
in our grief, we do not grieve without hope. She will be remembered for the love she
gave so freely, her wonderful sense of humor, her faithful friendship, and the many
memories she created with those she loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Carlyn (Jason Kempert) Hill; her sisters, Angie
Luckwaldt and Gladys Huset; her brother, William “Bill” (June) Schlough; her step-
daughters, Cory Hill and Lisa DeMars; grandchildren, Cora Kempert, Carter and Elliot
Berg, Chaz and Croix DeMars; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved
ones who will miss her deeply.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David Wallace Hill;
her grandson, Cyle Harth,; brothers-in-laws, Arthur Huset and Marvin Luckwaldt; niece,
Julie Jari; and many beloved friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Valley of
Peace Lutheran Church (Golden Valley, MN) with Pastor Ashley Osborn officiating.
